Teen Lead
Teen Lead seeks students who have a sincere commitment, motivation, and interest in serving their community. Teen Lead seeks to inspire and motivate high school students to achieve higher levels of leadership responsibilities.
What is Teen Lead?
The purpose of Teen Lead, a Lodi Youth Leadership Program, is to inspire and motivate high school students to achieve higher levels of leadership responsibilities. The program is sponsored by the Lodi Youth Commission.
The ten-month program will provide the necessary leadership training to assist those individuals in pursuing a leadership role in any local organization or volunteer program. Participants will be provided with the necessary information to understand their community.
Teen Lead Topics will include:
- Orientation (August)
- Government (September 21 at Carnegie Forum)
- Education (October 26 at Arieda Education Center)
- Environment (November at Waste Management)
- Health
- Volunteerism
- Criminal Justice
- Agriculture
- Business
- Graduation (June)
In addition, the program will provide its students with the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with the current community leadership.
Who should apply for Teen Lead?
Teen Lead is open to high school sophomores or juniors during the 2009-2010 school year. Students who apply should be seeking to enhance their leadership skills, knowledge of the community and must be willing to contribute individual talents to the betterment of the community. Only those willing to make a serious commitment should apply.
Thirty five students from the greater Lodi area will be selected. Students attending the following schools are eligible to apply:
- Lodi High
- Tokay High
- Jim Elliot Christian
- Lodi Academy
- Mokelumne River High School
- Liberty
Students must live in the greater Lodi area. Participants are encouraged to attend ALL sessions. Failure to attend at least eight of the ten programs will jeopardize graduation. Teen Lead members will meet on Monday’s, once a month (except in December) for a four-hour session. Some of the sessions will require a pre-arranged absence from school. If a student attends only part of a session, that session will not count as an attended day.
Tuition
Teen Lead is an educational program sponsored by the Lodi Youth Commission. Teen Lead participants will be required to provide their own transportation to and from session sites. Selection of Participants The Teen Lead program is designed for students who have a sincere commitment, motivation and interest in serving their community.
The program is limited to thirty-five participants each year. The Lodi Youth Commission will review all applications and select a well balanced group of students.

The Application Deadline is Friday, May 29, 2009 extended to July 17, 2009.

Applications must be submitted or postmarked by May 29 July 17.
Applicants must be sophomores or juniors during the 2009-2010 school year.
All Teen Lead Applications will be handled in the strictest confidence.
Requirements
Teen Lead Program Requirements:
- Must have at least a 2.5 GPA
- Must participate in both community and school activities
- Must complete application and obtain letter of recommendation and parent signature
Teen Lead Graduation Requirements:
If selected to be a member of Teen Lead you will need to complete the following to graduate the program.
- Attend 80% of the Teen Lead program sessions
- Complete 20-25 hours of community service
